Lavango is the Icelandic representative of ULTRAAQUA, the Danish manufacturer of UV and ozone systems based in Aalborg. Its equipment is in use across Iceland — including in fish farm intake water and municipal drinking water.
Water treatment for
Intake water is the first line of defence against disease. Untreated water can carry pathogens through the whole production chain — from hatchery to grow-out — and eggs and fry are the most vulnerable.

Chlorine is ineffective against parasites such as Cryptosporidium and Giardia. UV inactivates bacteria, viruses and parasites at low doses — without chemicals and without affecting taste or odour.

Chlorinating wastewater creates harmful by-products and means handling hazardous chemicals. UV and ozone offer chemical-free secondary and tertiary treatment.

Microorganisms in process water shorten shelf life and reduce quality. UV delivers consistently clean process water without changing taste, odour, temperature or pH.

When chlorine reacts with nitrogen compounds in pool water it forms chloramines, which irritate the eyes, nose and airways. UV breaks chloramines down so chlorine works better at lower doses.

Industry has to deal with microorganisms and persistent compounds in cooling water, process water and effluent. UV, TOC reduction and advanced oxidation do it without chemicals.

In closed water systems pathogens can spread quickly and algae can upset the balance. UV eliminates bacteria, viruses and algae spores without chemicals.
Wastewater · Calculation model and simulation
Using a calculation model and simulation, we estimate how much ozone is needed to break down the substances that must be removed from the water — in wastewater, industrial effluent or recirculating systems. That way the system is sized correctly from the start: never too small, and never more expensive than it needs to be.
UV-C light inactivates bacteria, viruses and parasites in a fraction of a second. Nothing is added to the water, no by-products are formed, and pH, temperature and taste stay unchanged.
Systems are available in electropolished stainless steel (SS316L) for cold seawater and freshwater, or in plastic (PP/PEHD) for warm seawater and corrosive water.
Ozone is generated on site from oxygen and is one of the strongest oxidants available. It breaks down microorganisms and organic matter, reduces colour and turbidity — and then reverts to oxygen.
Well suited to recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), wastewater, larger water utilities and industry.
Combining UV and oxidation breaks down persistent compounds that standard disinfection cannot handle — such as geosmin and MIB, which cause earthy off-flavour in RAS-farmed fish.
We assess flow, water quality and UV transmittance (UVT) and select a system that delivers the right dose for the target organisms. Water samples can be analysed at the ULTRAAQUA laboratory.

Trained electrician and aircraft technician with extensive experience in installing and maintaining machinery and electrical equipment. Handles every project from first enquiry through commissioning and follow-up.
Born and raised in Bolungarvík, Iceland. Studied export and marketing in Odense and worked for many years in Denmark and Germany. Since 2010 he has worked in consulting, sales and marketing for the seafood industry.
Heads Lavango Engineering in Lithuania, where design and fabrication take place. Educated at the Klaipėda technical college, he has spent many years building machinery and equipment for demanding food producers across Europe.
